When you’re dealing with train window glass, the thermal soaking has to be spot on. If the internal stress isn’t gone, you’ve got a problem. But if you’re setting up an annealing line for a project that spans different countries, the heat isn’t actually your biggest headache. It’s the power. There is nothing worse than shipping a massive piece of equipment across the ocean only to realize it’ll fry the moment you plug it into a foreign factory floor. That’s why we build our infrared lamps to play nice with 110V, 480V, and 575V standards. No surprises. No melted wires.
The nitty-gritty of voltage
Here is the thing about tungsten filaments: they change based on the voltage. If you’re running 110V, you need a thicker filament to get the wattage you want. But when we jump up to 480V or 575V, we can pack way more power into a much smaller space. For train glass, that’s a lifesaver because your heating zone is usually cramped by the size of the conveyor. Plus, matching the lamp to the local grid means you can ditch those bulky, expensive step-down transformers. They take up way too much floor space and, honestly, they’re just one more thing that can break.
Heat, power, and the trade-offs
High-voltage IR lamps put out a massive amount of heat. It makes the annealing cycle move faster, which is great for your timeline, but it puts a lot of stress on your electrical panels. You can’t just swap a 110V lamp for a 480V one and call it a day. You’ve got to check your wiring gauges and your contactors first. We spec these lamps to handle the exact ramp-up safety glass needs. But a word of caution: when you’re running at 575V, electrical arcing becomes a real risk if your connections are loose. Make sure your wiring is actually rated for the voltage, or you’re looking at a short circuit.
