Instead of trying to heat up all the cold air in the room—which takes forever—it beams the heat directly onto you. You feel it instantly. The heart of that whole setup is the quartz tube.
The “Splash” Problem
Standard quartz is great with heat, but it hates surprises. Imagine a tube sitting at 600°C. Now imagine a stray drop of cold shower water hitting it. Getting the Heat Right

The cleaner the glass, the more heat actually gets through to you. But there’s a catch with the thickness. If the glass is too thick, it blocks the heat and kills the efficiency. Too thin, and it’s fragile. We aim for that sweet spot where it’s tough enough to survive a bump but thin enough to keep you warm.
A Few Tips for Installation
You’ll want to wire these into a housing that’s sealed tight against moisture. Now, “explosion-proof” doesn’t mean the lamp is invincible. It just means that if something does go wrong, it fails safely. One thing people often miss?**Ventilation.**If you seal the unit too tightly, the heat gets trapped inside the box. That’s a quick way to fry your wiring or ruin the finish on your reflector. Give it some room to breathe. Also, a quick heads-up on your electrics: tungsten filaments have a big “inrush current” the second they flip on. Just make sure your circuit breaker can handle that initial spike so you aren’t constantly resetting your power in the middle of a shower.
