
Why we use ceramic for the SK15 lamp holder
Let’s be honest: standard plastic holders are great until they aren’t. The second you push them to the limit, they melt. If you’re running high-wattage quartz lamps in an industrial infrared array, you’re dealing with some serious heat. That’s why we went with ceramic for the SK15. It doesn’t warp, it doesn’t carbonize, and it doesn’t give up when things get hot. Usually, when a system fails, the socket is the first thing to go. Once it melts, you get arcing. And once you have arcing, your expensive lamps burn out way faster than they should. It’s a frustrating cycle.
The nitty-gritty on materials
We used a high-grade alumina ceramic for the body. It stays solid at temperatures that would turn most polymers into a puddle. But the material is only half the story. It’s all about the fit. We make sure the lamp pins seat tightly to keep contact resistance low. Here’s the thing: high resistance creates hotspots. Those hotspots can chew through your wire insulation or even crack the ceramic if the heat expands too quickly.Tight fits stop that from happening.
It’s more than just a part swap
You can’t just toss in a new part and assume everything is fixed. That’s why we’d rather come on-site and run diagnostics than just ship you a box of SK15s and wish you luck. The holder is just one piece of the puzzle. If your lamp is flickering or the ceramic is cracking, the real problem is usually something else—like a voltage drop or a misalignment in the circuit. We like to look at your actual setup. If your components are packed too tightly, heat builds up and kills everything. A drop-in replacement is fine for a quick fix, but a full audit tells us if you actually need a different wattage or maybe just a better vent to let the system breathe.
The trade-off
Now, there is a catch. Ceramic is rigid. It doesn’t “give” or absorb vibration the way plastic does. If your machinery shakes a lot, you can’t just bolt it in and walk away. You’ll need a dampened mounting bracket. Otherwise, the mechanical stress will eventually crack the ceramic, and you’re right back where you started. It’s a balancing act. We give you the heat resistance you need, but you’ve got to make sure the mounting is secure so you aren’t dealing with unexpected downtime.
