
Making Bathroom Heaters That Actually Make Sense
If you’re putting a heater in a pergola or a wet room, you’ve probably noticed the struggle. You want that deep, cozy warmth, but you don’t want a blinding light staring you in the face while you’re trying to relax—especially if you’ve got kids or babies around.
Taming the glare
Standard short-wave lamps are a bit like staring into a flashlight. They’re harsh. To fix that, we play around with the coatings on the quartz glass and the way the filament is built. Basically, we filter out the blue light and push the energy toward the medium or long-wave range. The result? You get all the heat, but the light stays soft. No one is squinting, and there’s no stress on the eyes. It just feels… right.
Steam, splashes, and safety
Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. Between the humidity and the occasional splash, things can go south quickly. We handle this by sealing everything up with high-temp silicone gaskets and using IP-rated housings. But we also keep an eye on the wattage. We want the infrared rays to warm your skin, not make the heater’s outer shell hot enough to burn you. It’s all about that balance.
The trade-off
Here’s the honest part: when you filter the light to protect your eyes, you lose a little bit of that “instant punch” you get from raw lamps. It doesn’t hit you quite as hard the second you flip the switch. To make up for that, we just make the heating element larger or tweak the reflector to push more heat straight down. One quick tip if you’re installing these: if you’re using a low-voltage circuit, it’ll take a bit longer to warm up. Also, make sure your circuit breaker can handle the initial surge of power when it kicks on, or you’ll be spending your morning resetting the fuse box.
